New Freebie on Facebook Page!

Just to drop by and let you know that this month's freebie is on Feathers in the Nest FB page. You can find it easily and click on the pic, right click to print out. The sampler is  called "Love Story". Yup, we all have one at some point in our life and I'm so blessed to have a good one. Inspiration came very easy for this one.

At the homestead, I've been in the nesting mode, especially today. Deep cleaning as if it's Spring!
However, the weather continues to give us rain, rain, rain, even with the sun out today.

I spent quite a bit of time cleaning my old pots and pans and exchanged the basket collection I had for functional use of the wrought iron pot holder. Mr. Darcy LOVES the large, very old iron one in the front.

I cleaned ovens, top of ovens, eyes of the oven, microwave oven, refrigerator and a really good cleaning of the counter tops. I think it was the tea I made that was too sweet. :P
Then to vacuuming and mopping, dusting and scrubbing the hearth.

I'm pretty tired right now. It's midnight. After all that energy, I sat down in the evening and designed the freebie you will see on the FB page. I thought about how much home means to me.
I love to travel but way too strapped right now for that so I'm having a staycation which includes enjoying our home.

I finally fixed the cover on the chaise. It's on the back porch and I found the perfect way for the cushion to stop sliding on it.

I just simply took small rope and put it through a large darning needle and anchored it to the chair.
I also made bows at the ends to enclose it a bit.

Yup, this is where my Sunday rest will be...............................................

Well, off to late midnight sleep with my honey.

Miss Betsy says................good night, sleep tight.

Freebie sampler on Facebook page

Inspiration?

Fresh strawberries of which I made a nice creamy filling and put in parfait glasses for dessert.

The name of the sampler is "The Fruit of the Spirit: Love"

If you like strawberries, you will like this sampler!!

All you need to do to print it is go to Feathers in the Nest FB page
You can click directly on Abbie's pic below and it will take you to the page.

Abbie says she loves you this morning!

What I'm up to?  well Summer cleaning still.  This cabinet was headed in a truck to the dump and I got it free from a very good friend. It's repurposed now to go in my stitching studio. I also have a small CD player to put in the top to have some instrumental music while I work.

You have to be in the right place at the right time. I can't believe this was going to the dump.

I'm still working at cleaning out clothes and such to donate as well. Yesterday I cleaned one closet out, 3 more to go.

We have 2 guest bedrooms and changed linens and replaced quilts in one of them, an old, old, quilt. Changed the curtains to lace to let in the sunlight and it seems like a bigger room.

Letting go of shoes and clothes is hard for me and for what reason I don't know. But simplifying my life seems to be reducing alot of stress already.

For me, alot of things donating are when I ask these questions:

is it old and nonfunctional?

is there a bad memory attached?

is it worn out?

faded?

does it have shoulder pads? :P

if yes, then they are going to Goodwill.

Purl of Wisdom~~~Chaos is something that is not conducive to a smoother life journey. Reducing chaos and clutter reduces stress in life just by altering the environment in which we live.

I hope your weekend is full of sunshine and stitching!

Thomas and Spring

Thomas, death by cat food.

This is what happens when you buy a buffet for Thomas.

He got 2 auto feeders and ate. And ate. And. Ate.
Honestly, he will be bullemic probably  now. LOL

He was a HAPPY kitty!

I spent the beautful sunny day rambling in junkin' places and spruced up the inside of the house for Spring.
I'm so ready for it.

Won't be long before those trees fill in with leaves and blossoms.

So excited for a guest who will be here soon!!!

These feet are happy dancing.

I went junkin' today and this is what I came up with for my front door.
I kinda like it.
It's ready for a special guest.

What could be better in the Springtime?
Hope your neck of the woods is warming up and giving you good cheer!

Till later,
Jennifer

Sunday cleaning around the homestead

I'm not one to sit still long and we knew the porches needed SOOOO much cleaning so BodyGuard and I took a drive to Big Lots and he repainted a bench that I got at an auction ..........about 6 months ago...hmmm.....yep.....and even though we accepted the fact that the porches can't be painted till September due to the Summer afternoon rains.....we went ahead and cleaned the scruffy floors again. It's an endless task.

And it is HOOOOMID right now in North Georgia!

This bench at auction from the rear seat looked about 5 foot........when I won it for 30.00 and went up to get it, it measured 7 foot!  Oops...... so outside on the front it goes.

Makes a great little spot for Miss Flossie Mae to have a cushion to nap on.

Got the cushion at Big Lots, along with this 9 foot outdoor rug. The first time I had been to a Big Lots in 10 years.

I forgot how fun it was.

At Lowe's we picked up some shade-loving plants but I think this will have to wait a couple of days. Got too tired.

I love porches.

I always have loved porches.

I grew up in a house without a porch but would go sit for long hours down the road at a neighbor's house and rocked till the sun went down! ;)

So, that was an important thing to me when we picked out this house because we both love porches.

And we got plenty of them too.

Changed some cushions in the front porch swing which is quite nice on Summer evenings.

And even though the porch floors are a bit scruffy, we call it Home.

And yes, Flossie Mae has taken well to the outdoors.

She has brought us her first remnants of a mouse to the porch. If you heard a scream, it was me.

She hasn't got used to the "scream" when I see the "gifts" she leaves. Thomas has long gotten used to it but Flossie goes up a tree.

Hanging on and backing down on her own. She has to learn,

while other creatures that are only inside the homestead, resume napping.......

in her Little Black Dress

She's the sweetest furbaby. By the way, she sends out a Father's Day greeting to her doggie daddy who the breeder said is named "Tuff". Yep, she's Tuff's girl. LOL

And this is Home......

Hope you had a great Sunday!  We plan on relaxing for the rest of the evening and resting my eyes for a new day tomorrow.

Good night John Boy.

I heart my space and creating a peaceful place

There are days when I'm reminded that it's most important to me to keep those things that either bring peace, comfort, or functional. I'm not always the most practical part, as my other half is, but trying to get better as the years roll on.

Life is too short not to enjoy, what you enjoy.

I find in my journey that I have finely teased out many things that do not bring joy or really not functional lately. It's freeing. It's balance to the busy days. It's embracing serendipity.

One thing I love is the color pink so in my creative space I have alot of it.
I love my studio/guestroom/yoga/meditation room as well. It used to be my daughter's room. She loved art and did well with it in school and therefore there are many of her drawings around the house that I would never part with, well, of course, for her, if she wanted them but she has not expressed an interest in them which is quite sad as she is very talented. So for now they are housed here with some of my favorite things.

I thought I would share a few pics around the room tonight. It makes a very good place to stitch in the mornings as the sun shines really bright through both long windows. At night I stitch better downstairs by the sunshine then!

Of course tonight it's pretty doggone dark out in the country. ;)

Over my favorite, most comfortable chair that I've had for years, I have a new pic I found last week at The Martin House near Helen, Ga., not far from where we live.

I knew it would be an inspiring piece for this room.

I don't knit (took one class LOL) but one day I will pick it up again. I know this for sure as I did enjoy the class I took. Anyways, I put this pic over the chair and really like it here.

Time to get the bunny pillow out again. It pretty much stays out except for Christmas. Found this last year at a thrift store for a goooooo deal.

I love bunnies too!

This one has been in my daughter's room since I became pregnant with her and knew she was a girl!

This one too. And I have several more I'll post closer to Easter but just a few in here, actually several more that I won't part with.

I'm so ready for Spring.

The tin tart warmer is THE best thing EVAH! I have 3 of them. This room I usually put the tarts from the primitive store local that is called "clean cotton" It smells like fresh laundry and line-dried sheets!

And here are my new stash boxes and I have the bottom full of linen cuts already.

The left side of the room is mainly my studio stuff.

This is where my Kay frame stays and now it's loaded with a design for DV awareness that I need to be finishing up when I'm in a purple mood as it is full of purple colors! On the desk I weeded out everything except what is functional or special. I have my son's dress military pic with a star light beside it and essentials for stitching ( in this room HA!) ;)
I have many of The Sampler Girl's samplers in this room.

Here's my patched heart pillow I made and put my scissors I got from a special trip. I made this pillow on a special day when my heart broke, literally, so I put to good use a torn comforter that was in the donate pile and cut the velvet into squares and there were several heart squares.

Then I backed it with some cotton fabric and put a patch of Raspberry Jobelan I had a scrap of, on the front and put my scissors in it for my stitching chair. I will never forget the day I sat in the floor, crying, making this and it will stay with me as long as I am alive. Not because of the pain, but because it reminds me that after the pain, I can and will patch my heart and something good will come of it.

There is a much bigger purpose for our house one day and I just know it.

Nite-nite.  May your night be full of rest~~~ surround yourself with those special things and things that make your heart sing. Ditch all the others. ;)
