Thanksgiving Week and Art

I hope your family had a nice Thanksgiving.

This year Mr. Darcy himself, cooked a feast. I mean a real. BIG. Feast. I didn't have to do a thing but eat when it was all done. And even better he cleans as he goes along contrary to me making a mess all over the kitchen.

AND, oh my does he cook the best giblet gravy I've had in my life. I used to think my mother cooked the best, but I found someone that beats it. (sorry mama)

We have been watching movies and I've loaded several free kindle books to Gracie.

My progress on the As You Like It scarf is fairly well this week but we had some unexpected devastating news and we are dealing as best we can during the holidays. Knitting took a little backburner.

Knitting and designing do ground me and I hope that I can work on the next Monday mini this weekend to post Monday.

Even through the shock of bad news this week, I had managed to sell this picture.  This was Mr. Darcy's and he wanted to sell it.
I found it interesting especially for local urban art near Atlanta, Ga. Actually, the longer I looked at it, I could see more value in it. More art quality to it. I don't know exactly how to explain it, but it had no special meaning for him, so to the sale pile it went.
We tried to sell it local but dealers said it was not worth even 15.00.
The more it sat around the homestead, and as I took pictures, I felt what the artist wanted the admirer to feel. But, this week, finally someone paid 91.00 for it. And we were very pleased.

This pic can show a few more details for those who love art and art history. The painter is H. Hargrove. I don't know much of his/her productions but you can lose yourself in the busy train station here in years long ago if you really look at it.

The frame was in very good condition. I loved the tin roof here.

A time when ladies were ladies.

We didn't think this would be valuable to anyone actually.

I guess as they say, what's one man's trash, is another man's treasure.
I'm glad it is going to a good home.

Till later,
Jennifer

As You Like It scarf progress-Doubled

As I have been stitching and pulling various colors at random for this As You Have It scarf, it's actually been quite therapeutic and I wanted to show my progress. The last time I posted a pic I had 7 squares done but now 17 squares. I have about 27 or so to go.

Yes it will be very long but I wanted it as a functional scarf, homey, practical, and will be able to wrap it three times with plenty of length. I can always remember I made this the week of our first anniversary.

This poem came to mind again as it often does when I do needlework in many colors.

Just A Weaver

by Benjamine Malachi Franklin

My life is but a weaving,
between my God and me,
I do not choose the colors,
He worketh steadily.

Ofttimes he weaveth sorrow,
and I in foolish pride
Forget He sees the upper,
and I the underside.

Not till the loom is silent,
and the shuttles cease to fly,
Will God unroll the canvas,
and explain the reasons why

The dark threads are as needful
in the skillful weaver's hand
As threads of gold and silver
in the pattern He has planned.

Miss Abbie this morning says HI!

The Queen of Pillows

You can see my bag in the back where I accumulate all the labels used.

Abbie will definitely get here a scarf made as well to match.

This is not a perfect piece but has been fun to stitch. And that, my friends, is why we call knitting and cross stitching a hobby!

I hope there is plenty of blue sky in your life today!
