North Georgia Mountains---many adventures just outside the homestead

Mr. Darcy and I had a great day off together. I feel so blessed to live in the North Georgia mountains. It's rich in history, many a junkin' store to walk through, many locals and tourists to meet and it's never but a very short drive from the homestead almost right in the back yard to see many quiet spots.

God created the Earth so beautiful and to enjoy. And so on Wednesday we did just that. With an agenda, yet some serendipity on my part, for the day's adventures, Mr. Darcy and I had alot of fun, rest and relaxation, good exercise hiking and making memories, holding hands and conversation of which is always comforting.

Here are a few of our pics from our stop at Anna Ruby Falls which is very close to the homestead.

The Captain Nichols back in the day attended one of the churchs we go to and worship. Can you imagine him riding his horse and finding all this beauty?

The day was cloudy and overcast and we were just in the nick of time for no rain. But when we reached the large falls, the cool mountain mist was so refreshing peppering my face.

This tree we saw was growing on a huge rock. It had twisted and turned, acclimating itself, drawing water and nutrients and making roots in a rock.

Speaking of the rock.........this is my rock. :P

yes he's  Bulldog fan!

This water looked almost inviting for play but believe me, the water from here is cold. No matter what time of year!

Last time I went to the Falls, it was a dry season, but this time, the water was rushing and filling every gap. The sound so comforting, the mist so refreshing.

Half way up the mountain, I took a rest.

Those boots were a gift from Christmas and Country Outftters. They were worn specifically because all up and down he hike are signs that warn of Copperheads and rattlesnakes. Not my friends.
Mr. Darcy wanted to take pics here.

In the above pic, you can see in the distance the big Falls.

The Falls have two sides and huge. We didn't get a pic of both, wish we did but Mr Darcy did like it. This was his first time there. I've been here many times.

At the gift shop at the end, I thought this was a fox but they had it labeled as a racoon. Confused me.

Much of the streams and area are undisturbed. They do not remove trees that are fallen because they believe the natural habitat benefits all kinds of critters.

It was really the perfect temp of a day to hike here.

After the hike back, we went riding through the mountains and stopped to eat some really good fried chicken and veggies and dessert to fill us up!  We were hungry!

Then we roamed through a junkin/antique store which had quite the library of old books.
I got a hardback copy of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

There's just something about reading it from a hardback and not the Kindle. Plus there were pics in it randomly.

I felt the serenity of the many walks taken in the Jane Austen books after the walk with my loving husband. Now to read, on my back porch again of all the Jane Austen flair will be awesome.

I have started a good part of the way now on a late Summer shawl with my circular needles.

Here are the colors. 3 full skeins for a shawlette.

I've made a couple of dropped places but knit group is not far away and I hope someone can help me fix it!

Needle size# 11 Knitpics Dreamz ( LOVE)
32 in circulars

Following no pattern but my own simple fly- by- the- seat -of- my pants-- hope- it- looks- good approach.

Cross stitch designs are flittering around the desk and soon I will be offering another freebie to pay it forward for your stitchy fingers.

I am almost finished with a summer scarf for one mother's day project and I have one more to go so I best get busy.

Purl of Wisdom~~~ Thank God for the colors of nature. The palette of Spring gives us all free pleasure at taking in a fresh new approach.

Till later,
Jennifer

Good Night, John Boy! Finished project for Abbie and me

Miss Abbie showing off her scarf made in leftover skein of Litoral yarn.

I cast on 6 and made her a scarf instead.  This was some kind of yarn to bind off..........definitely a challenge to weave in those ends with the irregularity and small clumps. I fell in love with the Knitpics Dreamz circular needles.

Project completed during an episode of The Waltons.............

We love Abbie and she loves us alot too. Abbie and me will match now on an outing!

I just need to go put this in my Ravelry page now. But for now.............the day is complete, errands done, finished a project or two, and now Mr. Darcy and I say goodnight....................
another day and I hope tomorrow is a good one for you!

Tinking and Thinking in Pink Lace

Pictures and lighting can do some really strange things to photos. My lighting is not the best replication of this beautiful Blue Sky Alpaca Silk 50/50 yarn but I can tell you it's more the color in the ball in the left upper corner of the pic. The color is more dense. AND it's the softest yarn I've ever stitched with.

I put something solid in the backgrond to show the design. It's a simple pattern on Ravelry for free, the One Row Lace Scarf.

Thank goodness for free patterns on Ravelry. I'm really enjoying it. I loaded all my knitty projects on my profile and if you are a member my name is Stitchinggirl50. Would love to chat with ya about knitting.

Just wanted to show you some wood needles #9 Rosewood with mother of pearl tops I got last year. I was dissapointed because in 2 days the top of one was lost. I had traveled with my knitting and didn't know where it fell off but I got these at Michael's. They are functional and sturdy wood. I like the dark colored needles with bright or light yarn.

One simple lace pattern row in repetition will make a scarf. I actually learned what TINK meant. It's KNIT spelled backwards so instead of frogging it's called TINKING.

I tinked this scarf 3 times before I got it going. The secod time I CO too many. You cast on multiples of 4, so I CO 24.

Some lace patterns require too much counting and such for me to watch a TV show or webcast comfortably while knitting but this one, I can.

This is a light weight soft yarn and with the openness of the lace, can be worn even in the summer months in North GA.

I'm trying to gain more experience so I can make a shawlette!

When I see this scarf coming forth with all the directions of the yarn, I think about the poem, The Weaver. Sometimes our lives get that way, but the final outcome is a beautiful.

Purl of Wisdom:   The gaps in our lives formed a purpose, but sometimes we only can see the beauty of it much later.

Sunday at the Homestead.

I finished the Italian cotton blend which made a 12 inch square cloth. It's so soft and absorbant that I am going to make some washcloths/facecloths.

I went to Hobby Lobby and got this awesome new 100% cotton in beautiful colors. I got 4 of them for washclothes.

This one is Antique Gold.

It's called I LOVE THIS COTTON and I certainly can see why. No fraying and just the right small size to make a good lather on delicate skin.

I have some really nice dark and light teals for the guest bath for Spring.

This skein is also quite larger than Peaches and Cream, and not as rough.

Looking good against my Rosewood needles size 9 with mother of pearl in lay.

And when completed, I will roll them up until I get 10 or so made for the bath. Just still using the basic, simple garter stitch.

Mr. Darcy is making me a blocking board and here is the basic material. We found out how utterly inexpensive and frugal to make one besides buying a huge amount for one at a craft store.
He is very talented at things like this so I'm excited he offered to do it.

At the homestead life is simple as we possibly can make it.

I love it. He loves it. We love it.

This morning is restful and I slept 11 hours. Must have needed it.

Coffee and knitting needles for the morning. Soon to listen to a worship service.

Simple.
Sunday.
Sweet.
Serendipity.
Spring.
Stitching.
Sweet songs from birds this morning.
So loved

and just

SO HOME!

Mr. Darcy loves to barbeque and has started a new blog. You can start following here.

His ribs are the best I've ever had. I'm so glad grilling time will be here soon.

Will be exciting for him to share his talents.

Chicken Pot Pie for supper here tonight

Enjoy your peaceful Sunday.
