Our Evening February 14th 2009

Tonight was really nice. I fixed a marinated steak in Jack Daniel's sauce, smashed taters and asparagus. For dessert we had brownies.
The Labs enjoyed the leftover Jack Daniels sauce and taters. Of course Ren ate his dogfood only with Jack Daniels sauce!
I finished and framed Phil's Valentine and was pleased with the frame I got for it. That was actually the first time I used mounting board and it turned out great! I got some bubbly and fizz for the bath and a beautiful Lily which I will plant outside and enjoy year after year. We even drank some pink champagne in our wedding glasses tonight. Very nice night............hope every one else's evening went well with your honeys.

Happy Valentines Day!

My honey and I are going to enjoy a nice little "stay home and cozy day" today. Later we will build a fire and I'm planning to cook us a nice marinated ribeye with smashed potatoes and ultimate fudge brownie for dessert. I must finish the last few stitches on my honey's gift this afternoon and will post a pic tonight.
We have recovered this morning from last nights escapages with chocolate covered doughnuts my honey brought me when I got up today. Sleeping late was much needed. The week has been long and hard and I definitely needed that "beauty sleep" for tonight.
Ren loved this morning as he had leftover Olive Garden spaghetti and garlic roll early and with me he whined for some breakfast so I just poured him a little bowl of Special K and he was happy as a lark. He was quite amusing to watch eating the little dehydrated strawberries but he likes it.
The Labs are whining already at the back door. They actually stand there and lick the glass door. This makes for good cleaning with Windex........hmmmm......I wonder if she thinks Windex tasts good or something?
The trip to Hobby Lobby made me want to sew, sew, sew. They had some pretty fabric and for 30% off was a good deal. I may go back one day and get some material to sew some curtains from the downstairs bedroom for the spring and summer.
And of course looking at the yarn, I was dreaming of really being able to finish my knitting I started at the class. I will definitely need class # 2 to get my present project back on track.
Well, until this evening...........enjoy the Love Day.

Our Friday the 13th is over

Well, today (or I should say yesterday by now) is Friday the 13th and even though I'm not the suspicious type, there is a little nagging unconscious way that Friday the 13th stirs my mind.
Today was one of those days and actually had a great day until about 9 pm tonight when my stomach decided to just spasm through until midnight............some days are that way but in Walmart this evening I absolutely had so much pain I spent most of the time in the lady's restroom.
I rode home with a pillow in my back and continued with the pain. Ran a hot tub of water and took something and now I feel much better; however, in the interim, Phil was going to run to the store for dogfood and did so reluctantly as I was hurting a bit and in the restroom. In the midst the phone rang, and absolutely could not get it as I was ........again, in the restroom.
I was praying that Phil would hurry back in case we needed to go the hospital if things didn't get better. Fifteen minutes later he comes in and ask me if I was ok, that he had to get a ride because his truck broke down. While he was checking the truck, he ripped one of this nails off the nailbed and was searching for bandaids.
Both of us consoling each other tonight and now I'm pretty pooped out and going to bed soon.
Tomorrow will be Valentines and hopefully things will be better.
The good parts of the day were that I finally got to Hobby Lobby to get some mounting board for some of my cross stitching projects in order to frame them nicely and while I was there I was in heaven looking through doll houses and furniture. I love doll houses and one day......one day, I have asked Phil if he would build me a dollhouse so that I can paint it and put some furniture and furnishings similar to our house.
Hobby Lobby had all their frames 50percent off. So I did get a few frames to do future projects and really liked their selections. Tomorrow I will post a pic.
The other great thing today was using our gift certificate we got at Christmas for the Olive Garden. YUMMY YUMMY for the tummy included Eggplant Parmesian and Spaghetti , fresh garlic rolls, wonderful salad and a glass of Merlot. LOVED IT!
That was a great gift from Ashley (my future daughter in law by the way) and we really liked it!! Thanks, Ashley.
We sat at the bar because the wait was so long and just ate there but it was kinda fun to watch them make the coolest different drinks for folks dropping by.
So, getting to eat out was a treat for us as we always eat at home now.
Oh, and another thing today was strange. The Dutch Alphabet that I have been working on for almost 2 years revealed to me today that there was no "J" in the alphabet. Yes, this design by Sheepish Designs is beautiful but not until today did I notice it had all the letters but the pattern left out J. I wonder if that was an error in their work or did they want it that way. For what reason though?
Oh well, enough of that. I must go to bed now and will write more in the morning. Stay safe and stitch.

Jennifer

Let's Look at the Love Week---Monday

ok, well, it's getting here........February 14th, Saturday this year. I hope you all are going to have a good weekend with your honeys!

So, I thought each day, I would find a quote about love to celebrate this week. Today is:

"You don't marry someone you can live with - you marry the person who you cannot live without. "Unknown author

I'll have to think on that one today! ;)

But it is true. If you think about it, we all attract our opposite. I know that's strange but it's true..........even predictable biologically. It drives each other crazy but I guess if you think about it long enough it makes sense.........just think how boring it would be to live with someone exactly like you!!!!!

Our Sunday Musings

Getting my sampler ready for hanging. I got this cool frame for 3.00 at Walmart. It was just what I was looking for! I have 2 charms to attach after ironing and then I'm going to block it myself and put into frame tomorrow night.

I craved chocolate today so Phil went to the store to get a few ingredients and I whipped up 6 dozen cookies. We ate 2 dozen and then sent some to work. They really turned out delectable!!!! Just like I like them, thin and soft but a little crispy around the edges!!!!!

Phil's book he is reading now. ........we have an obvious interest in Afghanistan now and read whatever we can find.

My progress so far on the Dutch Alphabet sampler.

Fabric roses for Valentines Day. So cute and they will last forever! I just love the different fabric choices.

Hope your weekend was relaxing. That seems to be my mission these days if I'm not at work.
I'm up here at 1;30am and have to get up at 6am, well my labs are barking every 15 minutes without end and it wakes me up so ? why go to bed????

The Daffodils are Peaking Through

I WANDERED LONELY AS A CLOUD
by William Woodsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine

and twinkle on the Milky Way,

They stretched in never-ending

line along the margin of a bay:

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,

tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced;

but theyOut-did the sparkling waves in glee:

A poet could not but be gay

in such a jocund company:

I gazed - and gazed - but little thought

what wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils.

This weekend I saw the sprouting of my daffodils in the front porch pots we have close to the porch. Actually, I noticed them yesterday morning when I went to take Ren out for a few minutes. The weather is definitely fitting for an early Spring but oh how I know its just a sneak peak at what will be in the distant future. We will most likely have cold weather again, assuredly until Easter, as my mama always said.
The daffodils were a pleasant surprise when I turned around as those are special. They come back year after year, probably about 4-5 years now in that same pot. Brandon brought them back for me from the mountain near our house and they keep coming back every February and March.
I found this poem on the internet and thought it was quite fitting. It was written in 1804 by William Woodsworth.

From Wikipedia quote:
"Like the maiden's song in "The Solitary Reaper," the memory of the daffodils is etched in the speaker's mind and soul to be cherished forever. When he's feeling lonely, dull or depressed, he thinks of the daffodils and cheers up. The full impact of the daffodils' beauty (symbolizing the beauty of nature) did not strike him at the moment of seeing them, when he stared blankly at them but much later when he sat alone, sad and lonely and remembered them."
