This picture could mean so many things to different people.

I love this picture. 

 What strikes you most when you first see this picture?

Is the girl praying or just watching out the window at bedtime?

Is she looking at the church or is it just a part of the background?

Is she watching someone leave or looking for someone to come home?

Is she comfy in her own bed or longing to go home?

I can think of so many things it could portray.

I think our life is alot like pictures. A glimpse in time that what some people think is one thing really means another to someone else.

That's probably a random, deep thought but just wanted to share.

My Finished Vintage Knitted Wrap

 Hello!

I haven't been able to take any good pics lately of my finish and progress/ weather and random things of interest for past week due to my camera breaking. For good this time.  I used my hubbie's Sony camera and I have to say, it's ok if you have nothing, but I cannot figure out, nor he how to make the colors as true and vivid as my old camera, Fujifilm. The hinge has been broke on mine for 2 years now and I've had to hold it under while taking pics but made it last long as I could.

 Now the old one can't be fixed but boy, did I get my money's worth from the Fujifilm. It's so old now that the basic FF cameras are superior a lot more to the advanced one I had. Any day now I should be getting a new Fujifilm 8200 series.
I will blog and write exactly what features as a photographer and needle worker I choose to continue with this brand of camera in a separate post when it arrives!!!!!  I hope to get back blogging more and sharing encouraging thoughts and pics, and of course my love for needlework.

Having said this, I will post a pic of my finish this week.

I love anything vintage and classic.

 

 

I like the way it turned out. The size. The texture. The softness. The warm fuzziness. The vintage classic style.

 

This is not meant to tie in front but I am going to find a beautiful jeweled vintage shawl pin. I think this would look awesome!

 

Layering with Winter or early Spring, this makes a great piece.

 

I used a basic shawl pattern, just increasing each row after casting on 30. Increasing only one stitch at the beginning of each row.

This used almost 1 full extra large Homespun Quick and Thick in colorway, Clarinet.

 

My review of this yarn:

 

Pros  

1. Extra soft yarn 100% acrylic found easily in Michael's Joanne's, Hobby Lobby or Walmart
2. Forms a beautiful, gorgeous vintage Boucle effect
3. Several available solid colors, however the wormy effect of the yarn make for interesting color dimension
4. One skein goes allllllooooong way  

Cons

1. This yarn is easy for splitting and fraying with use which can become stressful.

And that is honestly the only one I can think of.

You can see another color difference. This is actually lighter than it is.....frustrating.........anyway, I would say a deep cranberry color.

 

 

And speaking of color, I can't believe yesterday and today here in the mountains with almost 70 one day and still moderate today, and last week was this!

 

I still feel and so do many local mountain folk that March, we will get another snow episode.

Junkin' and Jumpin'

First I went junkin'.

 

Then I went jumpin'.

 

 

I know it's that time of year for all kinds of things with many legs to appear out here but I literally got wrapped in a HUGE spider web and the spider ran across to the flowers but the web was stretched from the roof, to the table, to the birdfeeder and back to the front of the porch.

 

 

I had my camera outside to take a picture of the sweet sunset this evening but ran into this one that has definitely taken up the porch.

 

 

Oh yeah! Rounding the corner of the porch was "entangling".

 

 

I'm sorry to say it but he is not boarding here at the homestead any longer........

 

 

The day otherwise has been awesome! The sun is out for one!!  And I feel some change ever so slight back to the drier air and hopefully much cooler this weekend I hear.

 

I went junkin' today. I think I've adopted Thursday for junkin' day. I had something in mind I needed in the kitchen but instead found a gallon bag of  38 forks and 40 spoons for 8 bucks. Stainless steel.

 

 

Now I think I have enough for guests!

 

 

I even found a stitching frame for a large project still new in bag and all the hardware looks great......5 bucks.

 

 

and I couldn't resist this little Colonial Williamsburg piece for 3 bucks.

 

 

 

 

saw a sweet, heavy pewter angel frame in a pile for 2.00. I can't wait to stitch a small in this.

 

 

and finally a small bit of progress this morning, early with my coffee before I started the day.....

I even played with a scrap piece of this Gingham linen I got a very long time ago to do one over one on a freebie by Liberty House Primitives "With God All Things Are Possible".

 

And for a nice evening it is, even with spiders.......I can't wait for the weather to change up this weekend!

Starting Summertime, Fabric, and Colonial picture

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

 

I've got lots of designs and ideas for samplers on paper but my computer is not working right of which I work on them. I hope to have that fixed by next week!

I would recommend Gentle Art's shades of blue for this design.

Stitched 1 over 1 on linen could make a nice tag insert for luggage and the colors could be changed to blend in with browns and tans for our troops.

My Memorial Day weekend is junkin' it at thrift stores just for fun and to replace some things. This Colonial picture of Mother and Child was just beautiful I thought. It is on canvas as well not print paper.

This red ticking fabric, with cute girl and puppy scenes, was too hard to resist for little of nothing I found this in a pile and is 4 yards of it.

Looks like a good way to freshen up the house for Spring. I could even make a shower curtain with this.

I love the little pics on the red ticking.

I think she looks prescious.

yup, pretty red ticking for Summer.

I have made some more progress on the sampler, My Everything, by the Sampler Girl.

Pictures Tell a Thousand Words and so Do Books

Just a thought-provoking day as I sat on my back porch in the sunny, cool breeze and finished chapter 2 and into chapter 3 of a book that is really good, A Confident Heart by Renee Swope.

 I'm catching up on an online study.

Two primary things struck me in the first chapter

1) Doubt and Hope cannot exist at the same time.

2) There will always be those who judge us, hurt us, turn their heads, lie to us, and shun us even though we are human and not perfect; but there is One who made us, that will never do any of that to us.

3) If we are living/seeing shadows, it's because we are not turned toward the light.

I don't know why I started it really, but in thinking, how ironic, Valentine's month is a good time to read this after-all.

It's about a very good love story which follows us from birth to death.

If you purchase the book, I recommend the paperback instead of the Kindle as you would probably write in your book to reread later on someday.

I know this has nothing to do with stitching but I just wanted to share as we all are not just compartmentalized into one thing. We really have a variety of areas of life and interests, just as there are different kinds of fiber that hold us all together for a pattern.
