However, for any lacework it's pretty much needed as it will increase the size and open he lacework and be more neat. Its really amazing how a shawl blossoms out with wet blocking. I have sometimes not blocked my shawls (because I wanted to use them fast) but with a lace one it's necessary. You can soak in a gentle soap in the sink for about 15 minutes and then take a towel and roll it up to dry, then either over an unused bed or you can get blocking mats, take Tpins and pin it out. It usually dries to the shape you stretch it in 2 days. When I block this one I will do a post on it.
